From a passionate gamer to a professional.

Hi!
My name is Antonella Ciaravella, a passionate gamer from Italy who decided to turn a lifelong passion for videogames into a professional journey within the gaming industry, working as a Localization Specialist and LQA Tester.My journey began in 2024, after graduating in Foreign Languages and Cultures. Languages have always been one of my greatest interests, and from an early age I knew I wanted to pursue a career connected to translation. My first academic path focused primarily on editorial studies, which allowed me to develop a strong foundation in translation, writing, proofreading, and the importance of conveying meaning accurately and naturally.However, over time, I realized that I wanted to combine my knowledge of languages with another world that has been part of my life since childhood: videogames.Gaming has never been just a hobby for me. It has always been a way to experience stories, discover new worlds, connect with characters, and share emotions with people from different backgrounds. I began to wonder how I could bring together these two passions, languages and videogames, and turn them into something meaningful professionally. That curiosity eventually led me toward game localization and quality assurance, and it opened the door to an industry I had always dreamed of being part of.Since then, I have had the opportunity to gain experience in both localization and LQA, working on the linguistic and functional aspects that help make a game feel complete, natural, and enjoyable for its target audience. These experiences have taught me that localization is much more than simply translating words. It is about understanding context, tone, culture, characters, storytelling, humor, and the player’s experience, while making sure that the final result feels authentic to the target language and audience.At the same time, LQA has shown me the importance of precision and attention to detail. Even the smallest linguistic or functional issue can affect a player’s experience, which is why I enjoy approaching each task with patience, curiosity, and a critical eye. Finding an issue is only part of the process; understanding it, documenting it clearly, and helping ensure a better final product is what makes the work truly rewarding for me.I am constantly working on improving my skills, expanding my knowledge, and gaining more confidence through every project and experience. I believe that there is always something new to learn, especially in an industry as creative and constantly evolving as gaming. Every challenge is an opportunity to grow, and every project gives me the chance to become a better professional.But behind all of this, there is a much more personal story.My love for videogames started with a PlayStation 1, some of my childhood games and, most importantly, my mom sitting beside me and playing with me. Those moments may seem simple, but they are where everything began. I could never have imagined that something that brought me so much joy as a child would eventually become part of my professional life.Today, being able to contribute to videogames through localization and quality assurance feels incredibly meaningful to me. I have the opportunity to give something back to an industry that has given me so much throughout my life: stories, memories, emotions, challenges, and countless hours of fun.My goal is to help create experiences that players around the world can enjoy and connect with, regardless of their age or language. I want my work to preserve the emotions and intentions behind a game while making sure that players in my language can experience it as naturally and authentically as possible.I believe that passion, curiosity, dedication, and the willingness to keep learning can lead to something truly meaningful. And I am looking forward to seeing where the next adventure takes me.

BEYOND THE GAME

Same passion. Different levels.

Gaming is more than just a passion or a hobby.Through some of my favourite titles, including Final Fantasy VII and Kingdom Hearts, I have learned lessons that go far beyond the screen. They have taught me the importance of creativity, of fighting for what you care about and for what you believe is right. They have taught me to love the people who are dearest to me, to embrace deep emotions, and never be afraid to cry because of them. They have taught me to keep dreaming, even when the path ahead seems difficult, and to believe that one day, our ambitions and dreams can become reality.Videogames have a unique way of telling stories. They allow us not only to watch a character’s journey, but to experience it alongside them. We laugh with them, struggle with them, celebrate their victories, feel their losses, and sometimes even see a little part of ourselves in their stories.That is why gaming is so important to me and, I believe, to so many of us.Games can teach us. They can inspire us, challenge us, comfort us, and help us understand emotions and perspectives that we may not otherwise encounter. They can bring people together despite differences in age, culture, or language. And sometimes, a videogame can leave a mark on someone that stays with them for years.This is also why being able to contribute to the gaming industry means so much to me. Through localization and LQA, I have the opportunity to help preserve the stories, emotions, and experiences that make these games so special, while making them accessible and meaningful to players in my own language.I am deeply honoured to be a small part of something I consider truly magical.Because behind every line of dialogue, every character, every world, and every story, there is the possibility of making someone feel something, and I cannot think of anything more rewarding than helping that feeling reach players around the world.
